The Level 2 Knowledge Management Assist Visit (KMAV) of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) was recently held in Abu Dhabi by the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR). In order to evaluate and improve the UAE’s nuclear knowledge management procedures under international standards and best practices, the mission brought together specialists from across the world.
Following the first visit in 2014, the mission concentrated on topics such digital tools, tacit knowledge transfer, human resource development, policy and strategy, and the culture of knowledge sharing.
To assess progress, pinpoint strengths, and investigate prospects for additional growth, FANR teams collaborated closely with IAEA specialists. Throughout the nuclear lifespan, from research and design to operation, maintenance, and decommissioning, knowledge management is essential to maintaining operational safety, regulatory efficacy, and sustainability.
To lower the risk of crucial knowledge loss, the IAEA assists Member States in these endeavors through customized Assist Visits, guidance materials, and capacity-building initiatives. FANR’s dedication to regulatory excellence, rooted in robust knowledge systems, is demonstrated by its hosting of this IAEA mission,” stated FANR Director-General Christer Viktorsson. Our national nuclear program and our contribution to global nuclear governance are strengthened when we innovate locally while adhering to international best practices.
