Young artists dominated the nominations for the BRIT Awards announced on Wednesday, with singers Olivia Dean and Lola Young leading the field with five nominations each. Lola Young, 25, is in the running for artist of the year, breakthrough artist, alternative or rock act, and pop act. Her chart-topping single Messy has also been shortlisted for song of the year.

Olivia Dean, 26, earned nominations in the same song category with two tracks, Man I Need and Rein Me In, the latter a collaboration with Sam Fender. She is also nominated for artist of the year, pop act, and album of the year for The Art of Loving.

Sam Fender, 31, picked up three more nominations, including artist of the year, alternative or rock act, and album of the year for People Watching. Rappers Dave and Jim Legxacy, singer Lily Allen, and producer Fred again… each received three nominations.

Jo Twist, chief executive of the British Phonographic Industry, which organises the BRIT Awards, said it was encouraging to see British music thriving, particularly a new generation of artists making a strong global impact over the past year. She highlighted Olivia Dean, Lola Young, Sam Fender, PinkPantheress, and Skye Newman among those leading the way.

Organisers said around 70 percent of this year’s nominations feature women and non-binary artists, either as solo performers or within mixed groups, marking the highest level of representation to date.
