The Oscar-winning documentary No Other Land’s Palestinian co-director was hurt Monday in the occupied West Bank by an Israeli settler mob, according to one of the film’s other directors. Yuval Abraham wrote in a post on X that Hamdan Ballal was hurt in the head and stomach when a gang of settlers stormed the community of Susya.

Israeli soldiers arrested Mr. Ballal and another Palestinian man as they were receiving medical attention in an ambulance, according to the Centre for Jewish Non-violence advocacy group. Mr. Abraham stated that it was unknown whether Mr. Ballal was receiving medical care or where he was.

The documentary, which focuses on human rights issues in occupied Palestine, particularly Israeli military and settler aggression against Palestinians, makes extensive use of the West Bank, notably the community of Susya.

According to a statement from the film’s production company, the violence started when US-Israeli settler Issachar Manne and his son Shem Tov threw stones at Palestinian neighbours and damaged property, including a water tank and Mr. Ballal’s automobile.

This year’s Oscar winner for Best Documentary, No Other Land, tells the story of Masafer Yatta inhabitants’ fight to prevent the Israeli force from destroying their towns. Mr. Ballal and Basel Adra are two of its Palestinian co-directors.
