Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz warned Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Tuesday that he may face a destiny “similar to” Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, who was deposed and ultimately hanged.
Katz told Khamenei that he faced “a fate similar to Saddam Hussein” at a meeting with Israeli military and security service officers, according to a statement from his office. I warn the Iranian ruler against continuing to engage in war crimes and launch missiles towards Israeli civilians,” Katz is reported as saying. He should remember what occurred to the dictator in the neighbouring country to Iran who took the same path against Israel.
Saddam Hussein was overthrown during the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003, and he was eventually caught and killed. During the 1991 Gulf War, his regime launched missiles at Israel and was suspected of carrying out a clandestine nuclear weapons development.
As the Israel-Iran air war entered its fifth day, US President Donald Trump stated that he sought a “real end” to the nuclear dispute with Iran and hinted that he could send senior American officials to meet with the Iranian leaders.
Speaking to reporters after leaving Canada, where he had attended the Group of Seven conference on Monday, Trump predicted that Israel would not ease its strikes on Iran.
