Iran responded to President Donald Trump’s threat of limited strikes on Monday by vowing to reply “ferociously” against any U.S. attack and reiterating threats of a regional conflict. Tehran and Washington’s aggressive rhetoric coincided with indirect negotiations that were scheduled to resume in Switzerland on Thursday in an attempt to negotiate an agreement on Iran’s controversial nuclear program.

University students have begun the new semester with anti-government rallies, resurrecting chants from statewide demonstrations that peaked in January and were greeted with a violent crackdown, as Iran faces pressure from the United States supported by an increase in military might in the Middle East.

Trump stated last week that if Iran did not reach an agreement, he was considering a limited strike; however, Tehran’s foreign ministry reaffirmed on Monday that any strike, no matter how little, would be regarded as an act of aggression.”At a conference in Tehran, ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei stated, “And any state would react to an act of aggression… ferociously, so that’s what we would do.

Trump stated on Thursday that Tehran has no more than 15 days to reach a deal, despite Iran’s announcement that it would be prepared to provide a draft plan for an accord on its nuclear program to mediators in the coming days.
