India’s civil aviation minister stated on Monday that the country will “set an example” for airlines that break the law by taking severe measures against IndiGo in the wake of at least 2,000 flight cancellations this month.

Minister Ram Mohan Naidu told legislators, “We are conducting an investigation and will take very, very strict action… we will set an example for all the other airlines.” A request for response on Naidu’s comments was not immediately answered by IndiGo, according to Reuters.

According to documents reviewed by Reuters on Saturday, the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), India’s aviation regulator, has given notices to IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers and COO Isidre Porqueras, alerting them to potential regulatory action, including fines and the suspension of officials.

IndiGo has not proven that it can manage its schedules effectively. The goal is to cut the schedule by five percent across all sectors. IndiGo must submit an updated schedule by 5 p.m. on December 10th, according to a DGCA statement.
