According to a Kremlin statement cited by Russia’s news agencies on Saturday, Russian President Vladimir Putin has invited all Arab League presidents and the Secretary General to the first Russia-Arab summit on October 15.
“I have no doubt that this meeting will lead to the further development of mutually advantageous, multifaceted collaboration between our countries and will help to discover ways to ensure peace, security, and stability in the Middle East and North Africa,” the statement quoted Putin as saying to Interfax.
The 22 member states of the Arab League, a regional association of Arab nations in the Middle East and portions of Africa, have committed to working together on regional political, economic, and military issues.
These reports followed US President Donald Trump’s four-day trip through the Gulf region this week, during which Washington claimed to have negotiated a number of agreements, including a $142 billion arms sale to the kingdom, a $600 billion investment commitment from Saudi Arabia in the US, and an AI partnership with the United Arab Emirates.
