Four civilians and one soldier were killed in an overnight gunfight and shelling at a major Pakistan-Afghanistan border crossing, according to Afghan officials on Saturday. This is the most recent escalation of hostilities between the two nations despite a ceasefire since deadly confrontations in October.
Three persons sustained minor injuries during the battle, according to the local hospital in the Pakistani border town of Chaman. At the intersection of Chaman and Spin Boldak in southern Afghanistan, each side accused the other of carrying out “unprovoked” assaults.
Unfortunately, the Islamic Emirate’s soldiers had to retaliate as the Pakistani side began attacking Afghanistan in Kandahar, Spin Boldak area, tonight,” Taliban government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said on X late on Friday.
Afghan forces opened fire first, according to Pakistan. Afghan forces were accused of “unprovoked firing” near the Chaman border by a spokesman for Pakistan’s prime minister. Mosharraf Zaidi, a spokesman for Pakistan’s prime minister, stated on X that “a short while ago, the Afghan Taliban regime resorted to unprovoked firing” near the border.
