On Tuesday, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) suggested a significant change to the Class X test system: adding two board exams for the 2025–2026 school year. Allowing students to raise their test scores seeks to lessen academic pressure and aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

When the proposal was considered, the Union Minister of Education presided over a high-level meeting at the Ministry of Education. On Tuesday, a draft policy was made public and posted on the CBSE website (https://www.cbse.gov.in). It asks for input from parents, students, teachers, and schools until March 9, 2025.

The NEP 2020 suggests holding the Class X and XII board exams twice a year to lessen student stress and give them more chances to do better. In addition to making exams more flexible and student-friendly, it highlights the transition from rote learning to competency-based evaluation, which enables students to keep their best score.

Exams will be administered in two phases, the first from February 17 to March 6 and the second from May 5 to May 20, according to the draft policy. It is anticipated that around 26.60 lakh (2.66 million) Class X students and 20 lakh (2 million) Class XII students will sit for the exams in 2026.
