In the event that Iran attacks Qatar once more, US President Donald Trump threatened to “massively blow up the entirety” of the world’s largest gas field. After Iranian missiles struck Qatar on Wednesday night, Trump threatened Iran’s South Pars natural gas field on social media. The Israeli attack on the South Pars field earlier on Wednesday prompted the Iranian attack. As the battle increases strain on the region’s energy industry, the US-Israeli war with Iran has caused turbulence in the energy markets. The cost of gasoline and other items has increased due to the jump in oil prices on international markets, which has put pressure on the world economy.

Fears of Iranian retribution against Gulf energy infrastructure led to an increase in global oil prices following the South Pars strike. Trump claimed in his post that the US “knew nothing” about the attack, but earlier on Wednesday, a person with knowledge of the situation stated that the US was aware of Israel’s intentions to attack the gas field but chose not to participate. A ballistic missile struck the nation’s vital natural gas station, causing “extensive” damage, according to Qatari authorities hours after the field attack. As a result, Qatar ordered certain Iranian Embassy staff to leave the country.
