As it seeks to establish itself in regions controlled by American chip manufacturer Nvidia (NVDA.O), Huawei Technologies is trying to ship tiny quantities of AI chips to the Middle East and Southeast Asia, according to a Thursday Bloomberg News story.

According to the article, which cited people familiar with the situation, the Chinese telecom behemoth has contacted prospective clients in Thailand, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates regarding the purchase of its older-generation Ascend 910B AI processors.

Although the precise amount is yet unknown, the article claims that China’s top rival to the top U.S. chipmakers is selling the chips in the low thousands.
According to the report, no agreements have been concluded as of yet, and parties in the United Arab Emirates have not expressed interest. The status of negotiations in Thailand is also unknown.

Requests for comment from Reuters were not immediately answered by representatives of the Saudi government’s media office or the Thai government. Huawei did not immediately answer a request for comment from Reuters.

According to the source, the business is also attempting to draw clients by offering remote access to CloudMatrix 384, a China-based artificial intelligence system constructed with more sophisticated Huawei processors that it is not yet prepared to export because of supply constraints.
