Who is Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum?

Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum is the son of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum, the senior wife of Mohammed. He is the second son of their 12 children and the fourth of his father’s children. He is his father’s third son. Hamdan has been the crown prince of Dubai since 2008. Previously, he served as the Deputy Ruler of Dubai from 2006 to 2008.

Hamdan is popularly known as Fazza, which happens to be the pseudonym he uses to write poetry. In Arabic, the name translates to “one who helps”. He has shown effective leadership qualities in several instances and is quickly following in his father’s way. Hamdan is also a generous and kind man, essential qualities in a ruler. Surprisingly, he lives a modest life, in spite of all his riches.

As Crown Prince, he is a people’s ruler throughout. Fazza earnestly mingles with the common people and gets to know more about them. You can frequently see him eating at normal restaurants alongside common people. This has helped him to garner a sizable reputation on social media as a people’s ruler. He is a multi-talented person. Apart from being a ruler, he is also a talented horse rider, a passionate photographer as well as a published poet. These are all qualities that were usually seen in kings of legend.

Early Life

Hamdan bin Mohammed studied in Dubai at the Rashid School For Boys. He then went on to study at the Dubai School of Government. He continued his studies in the United Kingdom, where he graduated from the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst in 2001. After that, he attended the London School of Economics, a prestigious institute by any standard.

Roles and Positions

Hamdan became the Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council in September 2006. He worked in this capacity for some years. After that, he got the honor of being the Crown Prince of Dubai on the 1st of February, 2008. As the new Crown Prince, he made changes to several key areas. He appointed newer personnel and financial advisors to help him in the administration.

He heads the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Establishment, which aids and empowers young entrepreneurs to achieve their dreams. Moreover, he also sits on the Dubai Sports Council and the Dubai Autism Centre. His role in the Dubai Autism Centre has been crucial to assisting young autistic people in need of care.

He had an active role in the Dubai World Expo 2020 when the emirate hosted the event. He is also the founder of the Hamdan International Photography Award which he launched in 2011.

In 2022, Hamdan further inaugurated the “Dubai Global” initiative. The goal of this initiative is to set up 50 commercial representative offices for Dubai in 5 continents of the world. The initiative is aimed at supporting Dubai-based firms as well as reinforcing the city’s position as a global business hub.

Personal Life

Hamdan is a passionate photographer in his spare time. He has more than 15 million followers on his Instagram profile. He regularly posts pictures on his hobbies and hobbies such as animals, sports, adventure and poetry.

Moreover, Hamdan is a licensed equestrian and a multiple world champion at the World Equestrian Games. He is a member of the Royal Ascot and plays an important role in the Godolphin Stables. Hamdan has also won several medals at various horse-riding tournaments across the world. He is also a camel jockey apart from being an avid horse rider. Apart from riding, he also loves to scuba dive and skydive in his personal time.

Hamdan has also published several works of poetry under the pen name, “Fazza”. He published romantic and patriotic poetry in the Nabati style of writing. Hamdan describes his poetic work as: “My identity and poetic character through which I humbly attempt to rekindle joy in the hearts of people, alleviate their suffering in my own simple way. I express their hopes and aspirations.”
