The Ministry of Economy and Tourism has increased its monitoring efforts at points of sale across the country to ensure price stability for goods and products and their availability in sufficient quantities to meet consumer needs, especially given the current increase in demand for essential consumer goods.
According to the Ministry, professional inspection teams conduct monitoring and field inspections on a daily basis. This is part of close coordination and cooperation with the country’s economic development departments, as part of a joint national monitoring team that is unifying efforts to prevent unjustified price increases and unsound commercial practices, as well as improving continuous market monitoring throughout the UAE.
The Ministry stated that there is high-level coordination among relevant authorities in all emirates to continuously monitor markets and ensure that points of sale and traders follow consumer protection legislation and policies, particularly the pricing policy for essential consumer goods.
This policy applies to nine vital commodities: cooking oil, eggs, dairy products, rice, sugar, chicken, legumes, bread, and wheat. Prices cannot be raised without prior agreement from the Ministry and the national committee established for this purpose.
