In light of recent findings by Kaspersky, which were released in the run-up to World Backup Day, a staggering 92% of users in the UAE now store sensitive data digitally. This includes everything from copies of Emirates ID and financial details to medical records and picture archives. The results show how the United Arab Emirates is quickly becoming a digitally enabled society, where cloud computing, e-government, and mobile ecosystems are becoming staples. Cybersecurity professionals, however, stress the need of stronger backup practices and more intelligent protection techniques, stating that ease of use does not necessarily translate into safety.

The study found that of those who took part, 66% kept important information on their own computers or hard drives, 43% used cloud services, and 35% relied on government digital services to keep papers secure. Users may be vulnerable to new cyber threats if data protection measures are inadequate, although this trend reflects the UAE’s larger efforts toward digital identity usage and paperless government. Storage habits vary among generations, according to the research conducted on a global scale. Almost all personal documents are stored digitally by millennials and Gen Z users, while over one-third of respondents over the age of 55 still utilize paper copies, showing that conventional formats are still trusted.
