While data from European forecasters indicated that other nations were expected to broil more in the days ahead, a heat dome hung over an arc that stretched from France, Portugal, and Spain to Turkey. Before rain is predicted to provide some places with reprieve later this week, new highs are anticipated on Wednesday. On Monday, amid Seville, Spain’s first summer hot, women cooled themselves in a public fountain.

The planet is getting hotter & more dangerous  no country is immune,” Guterres continued, echoing his repeated pleas for action to combat climate change. In Mora, Portugal, which is around 100 km east of Lisbon, a measurement on Sunday indicated a possible record-high June temperature of 46.6˚C. The weather service was trying to find out if that was a new record. With temperatures expected to reach 43˚C on Monday, Portuguese officials issued a red heat warning for seven of the country’s eighteen districts.
