The NOMU Al Ghurair Women in AI course was graduated at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in Dubai, in conjunction with the Abdulla Al Ghurair Foundation (AGF) and ZAKA, a pioneering educational institution.
The ceremony celebrated the accomplishments of 70 Emirati and Arab women who finished ZAKA’s 20-week AI Certification program, which was designed to boost the UAE’s skill capacity in artificial intelligence and machine learning.
AGF began the NOMU program, which means “growth” in Arabic, in 2021 with the goal of empowering 25,000 Emirati young people by 2025. Larissa Abi Nakhle, ZAKA Co-founder and Head of Partnerships, attended the graduation ceremony, as did Dr Yousef Al Assaf, President of RIT Dubai, and Dr Sonia Ben Jaafar, CEO of the Abdulla Al Ghurair Foundation.
Dr. Ben Jaafar told the grads, “You walked into a male-dominated area, and you did it bravely and fearlessly. You are the spark of a movement, a signal that the UAE’s innovation economy will be developed not by robots, but by women like you. You are not just influencing your own destiny, but also a worldwide statistic.
Dr. Al Assaf welcomed guests on behalf of RIT Dubai and offered an outline of the six centres that will open as campus construction progresses, inviting graduates to explore partnership options with the institution.
