Due to a systemic issue, United Airlines cancelled many departures on Wednesday, causing thousands of US passengers to experience delays. It was more than an hour before engineers were able to restart so-called “mainline flights” that were traveling between key hubs.

Our staff is striving to resume our regular operations now that the underlying technological issue has been fixed, albeit we anticipate some lasting delays.
At several key airports, the Federal Aviation Administration, which oversees aviation in the US, has ordered ground pauses. We are aware that a technological issue disrupted United’s operations. As they progress through the recovery procedure, some delays could persist,” the FAA stated in a statement.
