During peak hours, picture being able to get from home to work in a matter of minutes without getting caught in traffic. That is precisely what the newly unveiled Dubai Loop envisions for Dubai’s transport system in the future.

A 17-kilometer tunnel with 11 stations that can carry more than 20,000 passengers per hour is part of the proposed project. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) states that building an underground transport system throughout the city is the long-term goal.  With top speeds of 160 kmph, the system will reduce travel time “between key points in Dubai to just minutes,” according to TBC.

The projected project’s first phase will be the 17-kilometer tunnel. “The ultimate expanded system aims to handle over 100,000 passengers per hour, providing a high-capacity solution to urban transport demands,” said TBC.

The loop system, also known as Teslas in Tunnels, is a high-speed electric transportation system that delivers passengers to their destinations without making any stops along the way. According to the business, it can travel far more quickly and is more like an underground motorway than a subway.
