The early August opening of the Dubai Mallathon, which saw over 40,000 runners compete across nine retail centers, came to an end on Sunday. Deputy Prime Minister and UAE Minister of Defense Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, introduced the citywide program, which turned malls into indoor training courses and became one of the biggest community athletic events in the emirate.
A Guinness World Record for the most runners in a mall-run event was set by the month-long program, adding to Dubai’s increasing list of international accomplishments. At the concluding event at Dubai Hills Mall, 1,392 runners of all ages and nationalities participated, setting a new record.
Dr. Sultan Al Neyadi, the Minister of State for Youth Affairs, praised the community involvement, high attendance, and record achieved by the Dubai Mallathon. He stated that the program demonstrates the leadership’s commitment to integrating sports into everyday life and fostering an environment that promotes the community’s physical and mental well-being.
The resounding engagement of youth, who comprised the largest portion of participants, confirms their critical role in making community projects successful and in shaping the present and future of our country. We have a lot of faith in our young people to support community values and promote an active lifestyle in keeping with the long-term goals of the United Arab Emirates,” Dr. Al Neyadi stated.
