According to credible market estimates at the start of 2026, there are already more than one billion users of artificial intelligence technologies worldwide. Unprecedented numbers are being recorded by generative conversational platforms alone; according to sources from international news agencies, one of the biggest platforms has almost 800 million active users each week, while rival platforms are getting up to 750 million users each month.

At a rate quicker than the early adoption of the internet itself, these figures position artificial intelligence as one of the most extensively used digital infrastructures in technological history. However, what is taking place is a shift at the level of the global center of knowledge gravity rather than just technological advancement as seen in statistics. Global investment in artificial intelligence has hit an all-time high, according to market performance. IDC and other research organisations predict that global spending will surpass hundreds of billions of dollars annually.

Market research suggests that in the struggle for supremacy, big tech firms like Microsoft, Google, Amazon, and Meta may spend up to 600 billion dollars on core infrastructure by 2026. To improve their AI skills, this includes data centers, specialised chips, and cloud computing.
