An effort to import heroin hidden inside a significant amount of nutritional supplements was successfully thwarted by the General Directorate of Ports of the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security, working with Fujairah International Airport. This necessary seizure demonstrates the exceptional effectiveness of smart technology deployment at the country’s air borders as well as the exceptional efficiency of customs inspection officials.
According to a news release issued by the ICP today, a traveller of Asian nationality was stopped by customs officials at Fujairah International Airport while trying to enter the United Arab Emirates from his home country.
Officers found a sizable shipment of nutritional supplements in the passenger’s baggage. This contains 70 bags of dietary supplement powder and 100 containers containing 6,000 supplement pills. When the results of advanced testing on these supplements showed that the capsules contained narcotic heroin, legal action was taken right away.
The Authority emphasised that the successful apprehension of this smuggling effort is evidence of the diligence and proficiency of airport customs inspection officials. Additionally, it highlights the importance of contemporary smart gadgets in detecting illegal drugs, thereby significantly enhancing community safety and supporting anti-smuggling initiatives.
