According to his administration, Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu spoke during a news conference for almost 15 hours, breaking a previous record set by Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky.
According to a statement from his office, Muizzu, 46, started the lengthy news conference at 10:00 am on Saturday, and it lasted for 14 hours and 54 minutes, with short breaks for prayers. President Muizzu constantly answered reporters’ questions during the conference, which lasted until midnight, according to the statement. This set a new world record for a president.
According to Ukraine’s National Records Agency, Zelensky’s 14-hour news conference in October 2019 shattered the previous record of more than seven hours set by Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko. According to the authorities of the Indian Ocean archipelago, Muizzu’s prolonged session was also planned to take place on Saturday, World Press Freedom Day.
He stressed the value of honest, fair, and unbiased reporting and recognised the critical role that the press plays in society,” the statement continued. Muizzu also addressed questions from the public that were sent in by the media during the long session.
According to the statement, Muizzu, who took office in 2023, also celebrated his island nation’s ascent two spots to 104th out of 180 nations in Reporters Without Borders’ (RSF) 2025 World Press Freedom Index.
