As he prepares to visit Chinese President Xi Jinping later this week in South Korea as part of his Asia tour, US President Donald Trump stated that the US and China are ready to “come away with” a trade agreement.
Trump told reporters on Air Force One on the trip from Malaysia to Japan, “I think we’re going to come away with a deal, and I have a lot of respect for President Xi.” It’s going to be fascinating when China arrives.” Trump also said he might sign a final agreement on TikTok on Thursday.
Along with U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, he returned to the press cabin aboard Air Force One during the voyage to Tokyo. During his visit, he promised to discuss the “great friendship” between the United States and Japan. The only engagement Mr. Trump has planned since his arrival is a meeting with Japan’s ceremonial head of state, Emperor Naruhito, at the Imperial Palace on Monday.
