As the Palestinian city emerged from the shadow of the Gaza conflict to celebrate its first joyous Christmas in almost two years, scouts marched beneath a clear blue sky in Bethlehem on Wednesday. Chistmases in Bethlehem, the biblical birthplace of Jesus Christ, had a somber tone during the Gaza war that started with Hamas’s attack on Israel in October 2023.

However, although a precarious ceasefire was maintained in the Gaza Strip, where hundreds of thousands of people must endure the winter in temporary tents, festivities were back in full swing on Wednesday in the occupied West Bank city. Before the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem arrives in Bethlehem, Palestinian scouts march and people dressed traditionally pose for photos. Reuters
