
Dubai: According to the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA), the city welcomed approximately 1.6 million hotel visitors in 2024, representing an 11% increase over 2023. This expansion demonstrates the continued growth of Sharjah’s tourism industry. SCTDA and over 25 other public and commercial organisations participated in a press conference on Wednesday at the “Sharjah Pavilion” during the Arabian Travel Market (ATM), which takes place at the Dubai World Trade Centre from April 28 to May 1.
According to the authority’s release of essential data for Sharjah’s tourist industry in 2024, Russian visitors topped the list with over 270,000 visits, representing an 18% increase from 2023. With more than 170,000 visitors, Indians came in second, up 6% from 2023. In comparison to 2023, the number of European visitors increased by 16% to over 100,000, while the number of Chinese visitors rose to over 60,000, representing a remarkable 828% increase.
With 6% of all hotel visitors in 2024, Oman led the Arab world in this regard. Saudi Arabia came in second with 5%, Egypt with 4%, and Syria and Iraq with 3% apiece.The formal launch of Sharjah’s new tourist brand campaign, “Visit Sharjah,” was one of the recent advancements from the authority that Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, Chairman of SCTDA, emphasised. The campaign’s primary objective is to showcase Sharjah’s diverse range of tourism attractions, which blend adventure, heritage, scenic beauty, and contemporary experiences. It highlights how the emirate can offer a diverse range of activities to cater to the needs of various types of tourists seeking adventure, relaxation, family entertainment, or cultural immersion.
