The Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) has directed all schools to strengthen visitor protocols and tighten rules for student pickups. School principals now have the authority to approve or deny entry to visitors for valid reasons, following five core requirements:

  1. Visitors must sign in at the school’s security gate.

  2. They must display the visitor access pass at all times while on campus.

  3. Upon leaving, visitors are required to return the pass and sign out.

  4. Visitors should remain under the supervision of a designated staff member unless they are authorised personnel.

  5. Visitors are only allowed in classrooms if specifically invited. Authorised personnel, such as government inspectors or compliance specialists, may access all school areas and records as per Federal Decree-Law No. (18) of 2020 on private education.

Schools must verify the identity and purpose of every visitor before granting access. Principals are responsible for maintaining records of staff members accessing documents or resources, including the reason for access, in line with ADEK’s school records policy.

In addition, schools must enforce strict procedures for student pickups during school hours. Students may only leave with authorised individuals, and parents should notify the school in writing about any regular pickup arrangements involving people without permanent entry passes.
