
Dr. George P. Abraham, a renowned nephrologist and experienced surgeon, was discovered dead at his farmhouse close to the Cochin International Airport in the Indian state of Kerala. One of the nation’s top kidney transplant surgeons, aged 77, was discovered hanging in his farmhouse. A suicide note was also found inside. He states in the note that he is unable to continue with his responsibilities because of his deteriorating health.
Abraham has performed over 2,500 kidney transplants in his nearly five-decade career, setting a record in Kerala. He was busy in this private hospital on Saturday as well, where he interacted with patients. He was here on Sunday, March 2, in such manner. The local, who was shocked to learn of the doctor’s suicide on Monday morning, stated, “His brother was also with him.”
On Sunday night, Dr. Abraham brought his younger brother to the farmhouse and then sent him on his way. Later on, he was discovered hanging in the farmhouse. Abraham made medical history during his lengthy career as a renal transplant expert by becoming the third surgeon to use the laparoscopic technique to remove a kidney from a donor. Abraham’s other groundbreaking work involves a cadaver transplant and a few other techniques not often performed in Kerala.
