Authorities reported on Sunday that the Interoceanic Train derailed in the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca, resulting in at least 13 fatalities and 98 injuries. According to the Navy Secretariat (Semar), 36 of the injured were admitted to the hospital, while the remaining individuals had non-serious injuries.
The families of those who died received the secretariat’s sincere sympathies. It stated that for search and passenger location operations, the organization used 360 naval troops, 20 vehicles, four ground ambulances, three air ambulances, and a tactical drone.
The organization reaffirms its dedication to serving, advocating for the security and welfare of the Mexican populace, and will keep working in concert with the relevant authorities to elucidate the facts, it stated.
“Unfortunately, 13 persons lost their lives in the Interoceanic Train catastrophe; 98 others were injured, five of them critically, according to the Navy Secretariat. In a social media post, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that the injured are receiving treatment in IMSS hospitals in Matias Romero and Salina Cruz as well as IMSS-Bienestar facilities in Juchitan and Ixtepec.”The response will be coordinated by the Secretary of the Interior.
