A senior Russian general was killed by a vehicle bomb in southern Moscow on Monday morning, while officials reported “slow progress” in negotiations with the US to put an end to the conflict in Ukraine.
In an effort to break the impasse on a settlement to end nearly four years of fighting, which was sparked by Moscow’s full-scale offensive on its neighbor in 2022, top negotiators from both Russia and Ukraine met separately with US officials in Miami over the weekend. The explosion, the most recent in a series of such instances, has not been addressed by Kyiv; nonetheless, Russian investigators stated they believed it was “linked” to “Ukrainian special forces.
In a residential area of southern Moscow, Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov, 56, the chief of the training department of the Russian General Staff, was killed when the bomb went off beneath his parked automobile. A white Kia SUV with its doors and rear glass blown out was visible to reporters on the site. The explosion burned and twisted the frame.
