According to officials involved in the case, a 30-year-old Kerala lady was tragically discovered dead in her Sharjah flat on her 30th birthday. In a legal complaint, the relatives of the dead Athulya Sekhar accused her husband of long-term physical and psychological abuse in the home.
Thevalakkara in Kerala’s Kollam district was the hometown of the dead. Her family claims that Athulya had been subjected to long-term abuse by her husband, Satheesh Shankar, with whom she had been residing in Sharjah. They claim that during the marriage, which started while she was only eighteen, she suffered from violent outbursts regularly.
Athulya allegedly sent her sister pictures and videos of herself with obvious wounds and bruises the day before she passed away. She is heard sobbing and begging for assistance in one of the films, which her family interprets as a call for help. Additionally, family members have stated that Satheesh battled alcoholism and that the couple’s large age gap caused tension in their union.
Athulya apparently decided to stay in the marriage in the hopes of stability and reconciliation even though she was repeatedly advised to leave. Unfortunately, the tragedy happened on the day when Athulya was supposed to begin a new job at a store in Sharjah’s Safari Mall.
