An amusement park ride at Green Mountain Park in the Hada region in Taif, Saudi Arabia, malfunctioned while passengers were on board, injuring at least 23 people, several of them critically. Videos that went viral on social media on Thursday, July 31 show park visitors riding a well-liked thrill ride when the center pole broke in two.
Amid yells and laughing, clips showed several young men and women having fun on the ride as it swung back and forth. According to Okaz, a well-known Saudi newspaper, the ride’s arm suddenly snapped, forcing it to collapse with a tremendous bang while the passengers were still inside, causing moderate to serious injuries.
The ‘360 Degrees’ ride caused injuries, according to witnesses, when its pole unexpectedly retreated at a rapid pace, hitting people on the other side. Others who fell while still sitting on the ride suffered injuries. A Code Yellow emergency was issued at multiple Taif hospitals, according to information that Okaz was able to gather. Injured passengers were treated on the spot before being moved.
