The chairperson of the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, highlighted that Greece is an essential pillar in the continuous narrative of human creation because of its rich historical past and worldwide cultural significance. She emphasised that the country is an eternal source of knowledge and enlightenment for academics, intellectuals, and authors across generations. It inspired Homer’s epic works, formed Socratic ideas of virtue, and built theatres that continue to fire artistic creativity.
Her comments were made at the signing ceremony naming Greece as the 44th Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) Guest of Honour. H.E. Jasonas Fotilas, the Deputy Minister of Culture of the Hellenic Republic, and H.E. Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, the CEO of SBA, formalised the agreement. Greece’s Thessaloniki International Exhibition & Congress Centre hosted the signing.
A place where people from different cultures and languages may converse
“The vision of H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, continues to guide Sharjah’s cultural journey,” stated Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi. Through its embrace of Greek culture, the emirate upholds this ideal today. Sharjah is steadfast in its belief that communication and interaction beyond national borders are the foundation of thriving civilisations.
“Greece’s involvement in the forthcoming Sharjah International Book Fair is an exciting opportunity for us all to discover the shared origins of our myths and tales, as well as other common influences that have shaped human consciousness,” she continued. SBA is striving to make the 44th SIBF a historic occasion, highlighting a country that, along with the Arab world, has contributed to the development of civilisation, she clarified.

H.E. Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, CEO of SBA, commented on the agreement, saying: “Hasting Greece as Guest of Honour at SIBF 2025 adds to the fair’s distinguished record of international partnerships, in line with His Highness’s vision to champion global cultural exchange.” It offers a rare chance to interact with one of the most significant civilisations in the world, whose influence is still felt in modern philosophy.
