The municipality declares that permits for locations where food is prepared and sold will begin to be issued during Ramadan’s daytime hours. The Sharjah City Municipality has made public its Ramadan preparations. These include granting licenses for locations where food is prepared and sold during the day, as well as allowing cafeterias, restaurants, bakeries, and confectioneries to set up food displays in front of their establishments prior to the Iftar hour.

Mall locations will also be covered by the permits. The cost to issue the permission is Dhs 500. To provide these permits, the municipality has specified a number of requirements that must be fulfilled.

For example, during Ramadan, food must be served off-site during the day; patrons cannot be served in the dining room. Moreover, cooking and food preparation are strictly restricted to the kitchen.

Food must be displayed directly on the site’s front sidewalk (as long as it isn’t dirt), in non-rusting metal containers, and in a tightly sealed glass box at least once before the Iftar time. This is one of the requirements for the permit to sell food in front of businesses.
