A plan to create the Global Center for Research and Technology for Economic Zones has been accepted by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ). The program, which operates under DIEZ, seeks to increase Dubai’s leadership in the world and its contribution to the growth of economic zones. The Center seeks to improve economic zones’ capacity to draw in high-value international investment, raise the value added by economic activity, and promote trade and knowledge and technology transfer opportunities through the creation of knowledge, laws, and standards. These initiatives will boost the UAE’s competitiveness while fostering international collaboration and sustainable development.

In order to foster uniformity and enhance the performance of economic zones across the globe, the Center will concentrate on assisting decision-making that is supported by data, research, and creative analysis; harmonising classifications; and creating universal standards and cutting-edge operational models. Using its vast experience in creating and overseeing integrated zones, the Center is a component of DIEZ’s endeavours to strengthen Dubai’s position in influencing the future of economic zones. It contributes to the economic standing and competitiveness of both the UAE and Dubai and is in line with the goals of the Dubai Economic Agenda, D33, and the “We the UAE 2031” Vision.

When applied in collaboration with pertinent stakeholders, the Center’s output is anticipated to facilitate better investment choices, improve the business environment’s appeal, and create new chances for collaborations and value-adding projects. Indicators pertaining to investment attracted, new projects, employment possibilities, trade growth, and the transfer of knowledge and technology will be used to track the economic impact. Through the Center, DIEZ hopes to create a preeminent global knowledge and institutional reference point that enhances these zones’ ability to promote sustainable growth and have real, quantifiable economic impact. Six key values—independence, credibility, integrity, quality, innovation, and collaborative leadership—will serve as the foundation for its work.
