In the wake of persistent regional security concerns and air travel difficulties, Air India and Air India Express have extended the suspension of flights to and from three major Saudi Arabian cities Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam, until October 20, 2026.

Air India said it was watching developments closely and reviewing the situation to ensure flights could safely restart. Passengers hit by the cancellations will be granted full reimbursements, the airline stated.

The latest extension comes as Saudi Arabia continues to face severe aviation disruptions following a series of attacks on airports throughout the nation. More than 4,000 planes were cancelled or grounded out of Saudi Arabia between October 8 and October 15.

About 46 per cent of the 8,883 scheduled departures in the eight-day period did not fly, according to data from aviation analytics firm Cirium. One of the most hit was King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, which saw 298 of its 366 scheduled departures cancelled on 15 October, representing more than 81 per cent. Other major airports were affected, too. On October 15, Dammam had 60 cancellations out of 131 scheduled departures while Jeddah saw 87 departures out of 385 disrupted.
