Golden Dragon started introducing locals to Chinese food long before Dubai became a popular international dining destination, making lifelong memories. Fifty years later, the restaurant has brought back the individuals and families who shaped its history.

Golden Dragon, one of the first Chinese eateries in the United Arab Emirates, was established on October 14, 1976, in Bur Dubai by the late K.M. Bhatia under KM Brothers, when the nation was just five years old.

Sunder Mans, the General Manager of KM Brothers at the time, flew to China to personally choose the restaurant’s furnishings, equipment, and traditional artefacts. Architect Lalitha Sakthi of Mumbai created the original interiors, while Chandrasekhar handled the fit-out.

Bhatia’s wife Kamla, son Kamlesh and his family, daughter Pinky, former colleagues, long-time customers, and friends were all present during the golden jubilee celebration. The first Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to India, Mirza Hussain Al Sayegh, was a chief guest and participated in the formal cake-cutting.

K. Muraleedharan, Chairman and Managing Director of SFC Group, who started his career at KM Brothers, was one of those celebrating. I have a very personal connection to Golden Dragon’s 50th anniversary. I am still grateful that Mr. Sunder Mans signed my appointment letter when I started working at KM Brothers. We commemorate the late Mr. K. M. Bhatia, who started this amazing restaurant, with much affection today.
