The most senior person targeted since the start of the US-Israeli war, Iran’s security head Ali Larijani, was murdered by Israel, Tehran acknowledged on Tuesday. Meanwhile, a top Iranian source stated that Iran’s new supreme leader rejected de-escalation overtures made by intermediary nations. Larijani was regarded as one of Iran’s most influential individuals and a close friend of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the country’s deceased supreme leader, as well as his son and successor, Mojtaba. The security chief was known for his practical interactions with foreign ambassadors and other members of the ruling class.
Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, which Larijani served as secretary of, acknowledged his passing. According to the council, Israel’s attack on Monday night also claimed the lives of Larijani’s son and his deputy, Alireza Bayat. More than three weeks into the US-Israeli assault on Iran, which has swiftly escalated into a regional confrontation with little indications of abating, the targeted assassinations occurred.

Attending his first meeting on foreign policy since his appointment, Khamenei said that it was not “the right time for peace until the United States and Israel are brought to their knees, accept defeat, and pay compensation,” the person said.
