On Thursday, US President Donald Trump addressed the inaugural meeting of his Board of Peace that $7 billion had been put into a fund to restore Gaza once Hamas disarms. This goal is still a long way from being reached.
The disarmament of Hamas terrorists, the evacuation of Israeli troops, the magnitude of the reconstruction budget, and the flow of humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza who have been through a lot of conflict are all big problems that will likely test the board’s efficiency in the coming weeks and months.
Trump initially talked about the board last September when he said he wanted to end the fighting in Gaza. He later made it apparent that the board’s job will go beyond Gaza to deal with other conflicts across the world. Trump also announced that FIFA will give $75 million to soccer-related projects in Gaza and that the UN will give $2 billion for humanitarian help.
Trump argues that any deal with Iran has to be real, and that the future should be clear in ten days. The meeting happened because Trump is threatening war with Iran and has started a huge military buildup in the area in case Tehran doesn’t stop its nuclear program.
