dubai-bound-emirates-a380-turns-back-london-technical-fault-new-year-s-eve-1767259613-2582

On New Year’s Eve, an Emirates flight from London to Dubai returned to its starting point, the airline confirmed. Due to a “technical fault,” the flight (EK002), which took off on December 31 from London Heathrow (LHR) to DXB, returned to London soon after takeoff.

There were reportedly 500 people on board the flight. The pilot had to enter a holding pattern at roughly 10,000 feet to lower fuel levels before making a safe landing because, according to Flight Radar, the aircraft was over its maximum landing weight. After circling over London for more than an hour and squandering fuel, the aircraft landed at Heathrow at 4:28 p.m. Emergency vehicles were waiting for the plane to return to Heathrow.

Every passenger will be rescheduled to depart from LHR on upcoming Emirates flights. Emirates is sorry for any inconvenience, but we will not jeopardize the safety of our passengers and crew. Emirates said last year that it would begin operating six weekly flights from London Heathrow on October 26, 2025.

Emirates now operates six daily flights to and from London Heathrow, all on its flagship Airbus A380. The airline’s Boeing 777-300ER, which has more than 350 seats each trip in a three-class configuration divided between First, Business, and Economy, will fly the additional flights on all days but Fridays during the winter.
