In an attempt to express the feelings of the people back home following the most recent military clashes between the two countries, Indian players declined to shake hands after the game. Following Pakistan’s attempt to gain some ground through bowling, when Saim Ayub dismissed Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma for 41, a 56-run partnership between Tilak Verma and Suryakumar Yadav allayed any fears.
Earlier, Kuldeep Yadav and the Indian spinners caused chaos. They tore through the batting order of Pakistan. Abhishek served as a part-time fourth spinner for India, which used three spinners (Kuldeep, Patel, and Varun Chakravarthy) and gave up a total of 65 runs in 13 overs while taking six wickets. They destroyed Pakistan’s batting order, with Kuldeep and Patel taking three and two wickets, respectively, and Chakravarthy taking one.
Pakistan had a terrible start, losing two wickets while only managing six runs. Ayub, trapped for naught, was dismissed by Pandya. Ayub scored third in his past five innings, including this one, and a second consecutive golden duck, with the highest score being 17.
Haris holed out to Pandya off Bumrah in the following over. If three judgment reviews had not gone their way, they would have been bowled out for less than 100. After being declared out in the second over due to Bumrah’s bowling, Fakhar Zaman received the first review.
