At the 55th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Sheikha Latifa Bint Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Chairperson of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, met with Daren Tang, the Director-General of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO). Enhancing cooperation between the UAE and WIPO to fortify the intellectual property (IP) ecosystem and establish innovation and creativity as important forces behind sustainable growth was the main topic of discussion.

Sheikha Latifa highlighted throughout the conference the UAE’s dedication to developing its intellectual property framework to conform to international best practices, hence bolstering the nation’s aspirations to create a flourishing innovation and creative environment.

She emphasised the UAE’s noteworthy successes in promoting innovation and creativity in a range of fields, enhancing the country’s standing as a global centre for talent, technology, and culture. A key component of encouraging innovation, empowering artists, and promoting economic diversification is intellectual property,” she said.

The UAE is aware of how important a strong intellectual property ecosystem is to creating an economy that is prepared for the future. We seek to protect intellectual property while promoting expansion in our innovation and creative industries through partnerships with prestigious bodies such as WIPO.

Tang responded by applauding the UAE for its innovative use of intellectual property as a driving force behind cultural and economic development.
