US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported on Friday that 15 members of the Daesh group were killed in a combined operation by US and Iraqi forces in western Iraq. Seven US troops were also injured in the operation.
Targeting Daesh leaders, the early-morning raid on Thursday resulted “in the death of 15 ISIS operatives” with “no indication of civilian casualties,” according to CENTCOM’s statement on the social media microsite X.
The statement only mentioned that the operation took place in western Iraq and stated that the Daesh members were “armed with numerous weapons, grenades, and explosive’suicide belts.” It also stated that Iraqi forces were continuing “to further exploit the locations raided.
ISIS still poses a threat to our country, our allies, and the surrounding area. US CENTCOM will keep going after these terrorists with vigour, working with our coalition and Iraqi allies,” CENTCOM continued.
The operation takes place during months of negotiations between Washington and Baghdad regarding the deployment of coalition forces fighting terrorism in Iraq. Iraq has declared that it wants to withdraw all of its forces, but no timetable has been disclosed to the public. The international coalition against the Daesh group, the United States is one of the parties with about 2,500 troops in Iraq and 900 in Syria.
