More than 100 poets, critics, academics, writers, and artists participated in the ninth edition of the Luxor Arabic Poetry Festival, organized by the Egyptian Ministry of Culture and the Department of Culture in Sharjah. The event took place over four days in the courtyard of the Egyptian city of Luxor, amid a festive atmosphere in the open-air theater. It was sponsored by His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the Ruler of Sharjah and a member of the Supreme Council.

Abdullah Bin Muhammad Al Owais, the chairman of the Sharjah Department of Culture; Muhammad Ibrahim Al Qaseer, the director of the department of Cultural Affairs from the Sharjah Department of Culture; Dr. Muhammad Hassani,  Director of the Egyptian Public Library, Director of the Luxor Centre for Cultural Heritage, and Hussein Al Qabbahi, Director of the House of Poetry.

In his welcome address, Al Qabbahi emphasized that Luxor has become a major cultural center due to the Ruler of Sharjah’s support of the House of Poetry and being a significant historical and archaeological city.

According to him, the Sheikh Sultan has provided these admirable chances, opened up wide doors for the House of Poetry to gain knowledge of the Egyptian creative and cultural landscape, and given artists—poets in particular—a voice.
