Etihad Rail, the developer and operator of the UAE’s national railway network, has announced several early milestones following the launch of passenger services, with over 70,000 tickets sold as customers across the UAE incorporate rail into their travel plans.
The data represent one of the most obvious evidence yet that passenger rail is emerging as a new mode of transportation for families, commuters, leisure travelers, and visitors visiting the country. Planning Ahead, Not Just Trying It Once Customer booking behavior is one of the best predictors of long-term demand. Passengers are currently reserving their journeys an average of 12 days in advance, indicating not only high demand but also a growing trend of proactively planning travel around rail services.
Rather than simply using the service for the first time, users are increasingly planning work trips, family vacations, and leisure activities around the railway, indicating that rail is becoming an integral element of how people move throughout the UAE. Azza Al Suwaidi, Etihad Rail’s Chief Operating Officer, stated: “People aren’t only trying the train out of curiosity. They are planning around it. When clients book almost two weeks in advance, we know that passenger train is already becoming a part of how people plan their trips.
