Days after Israeli forces carried out a deadly operation in Syria’s south, US President Donald Trump cautioned Israel on Monday not to undermine Syria and its new government. It is very vital that Israel maintain a strong and true conversation with Syria, and that nothing takes occur that will interfere with Syria’s progress into a prosperous State,” Trump remarked on his Truth Social platform.
During President Ahmed Al Sharaa’s historic visit to the White House in November, Trump declared that he was “delighted” with Syria’s performance. Trump has been pushing for a security arrangement between Israel and Syria since Sharaa’s Islamist coalition ousted longstanding ruler Bashar Al Assad a year ago. However, Israel’s hundreds of bombings on Syria have increased tensions. Israeli forces murdered 13 people in the worst operation to date on Friday in southern Syria, claiming to have targeted an Islamist organization.
Trump stated that Sharaa “is working constantly to make sure good things take place and that both Syria and Israel will have a long and prosperous relationship together. The United States is ‘doing whatever within our authority to make sure the Government of Syria continues to do what was intended’ to reconstruct the war-torn nation, he continued.
