
His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has pledged financial support for the restoration of Beirut’s historic Grand Theatre as part of UNESCO’s international campaign to revive the landmark cultural venue in the Lebanese capital. Abdullah Bin Mohammed Al Owais, Chairman of the Sharjah Department of Culture, represented the Sharjah Ruler at the ceremony announcing the Emirate’s contribution.
In his address, Al Owais emphasized the significance of collective cultural cooperation, stating:
We are pleased to gather today on an occasion that highlights global efforts to safeguard Arab and international heritage, ensuring cultural continuity for future generations and anchoring their identity for a brighter future.
He added that Sheikh Sultan has long championed cultural initiatives and partnerships with international organizations, noting Sharjah’s decades of collaboration with UNESCO through awards, projects, and cultural activities that enrich the regional and global cultural landscape.
UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay praised Sheikh Sultan’s support, saying his contribution strengthens UNESCO’s mission to preserve culture worldwide. She described the initiative as a reflection of the Sharjah Ruler’s commitment to cultural dialogue and his belief in culture as a bridge between peoples.
